Characterisation of anti-CD4 recombinant antibodies

CD4 (differentiation cluster 4) is a membrane marker of T4 lymphocytes. The MicroPiCell platform has identified three recombinant antibodies that detect CD4+ cells in mice.

The MicroPiCell platform evaluated four recombinant anti-CD4 antibodies on murine tissues (lymph node, spleen, and mammary tumor).
- Two antibodies (Abcam ab288724 and Proteintech 86300-3-RR) showed signal quality equivalent to or higher than the reference monoclonal antibody and were validated across all three tissues.
- Another antibody (CST 25229) produced specific but weak staining under the conditions tested by the platform.
- The antibody ABCD AD042, developed against human CD4, showed no cross-reactivity with the murine protein and did not yield any staining in mouse tissues.
The cost per slide was up to 40-fold lower with recombinant antibodies compared to the reference monoclonal antibody Invitrogen 14-9766-82 (€0.22–€0.76 per slide vs €8.55 per slide).
